Theme: Chemistry as Central Science in Sustainable Development

In August 2023, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted the resolution "International Decade of Sciences for Sustainable Development 2024-2033" (Sciences Decade) after designating 2022 as the "International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development (IYBSSD)." This decision recognizes the urgent need to integrate various scientific disciplines and knowledge systems to address our time's complex and multifaceted challenges. As we strive for a sustainable coexistence between humanity and our planet, the role of science has become more critical than ever. However, despite significant scientific support for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), progress has been limited. The International Decade (2024-2033) refers to a specific ten-year period designated by the United Nations (UN) to address critical global challenges or to promote particular themes of international importance. These decades often serve as frameworks for coordinated efforts among countries, organizations, and individuals to achieve significant progress in various areas.

The ICCRS-IV would like to align with the vision adopted by the UNGA by organizing a scientific platform for the national and international social and scientific communities, students, scholars, and ordinary citizens to expand the vision of the IDSSD (2024-2033).

Previous ConferenceS

The International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development, that we organize in 2022, focuses on the links between basic sciences and the Sustainable Development Goals. This is a unique opportunity to convince all stakeholders that through a basic understanding of nature, actions taken will be more effective, for the common good.

Basic sciences have an important contribution to make to the implementation of this program. They provide the essential means to meet crucial challenges. On the other hand, contributions of basic, curiosity-based, sciences are not well appreciated. This is an initiative from UNESCO and this need of basic science is more expanded by ICCRS.

IYPT 2019 "Chemistry Today"

IYBSSD 2022 "Basic to Advance Sciences"

2019 has been designated by UNESCO as the International Year of the Periodic Table (IYPT), marking the 150th anniversary of the Mendeleev periodic table, which is an iconic image and a vital tool to all who learn and work in science, at all stages of their learning and careers.

IYPT is an opportunity for us to develop new resources and raise awareness, to inspire people of all ages, experience and backgrounds.

IYC 2011

The International Year of Chemistry 2011 (IYC 2011) was a worldwide celebration of the achievements of chemistry and its contributions to the well-being of humankind. Under the unifying theme “Chemistry—our life, our future,” IYC 2011 offered a range of interactive, entertaining, and educational activities for all ages.

The Year of Chemistry is intended to reach across the globe, with opportunities for public participation at the local, regional, and national level.
